On September 7, 2007, Don Lewis KF6GQ and I put on a mobile transmitter hunt for the ARRL
Southwestern Division Convention (Hamcon) in Torrance, California. The Fullerton
Radio Club sponsored this hunt and coordinated the prizes. (Thank you!)
There were two transmitters. The first was hidden in Rowland Heights, along the Los Angeles County and Orange County border near a water pumping station. This transmitter ran 4 watts into a quarter-wave whip. The transmitter was high and had a clear view to Torrance and Monrovia.
The second transmitter was hidden on a residential street in Monrovia, again near a water storage facility. This transmitter ran 25 watts into a 4-element yagi, pointed southeast toward the first transmitter. Both antennas were vertically polarized.
Scoring was by time of arrival. The results, in order of finish:
David Balgie N6MJN Deryl Crawford N6AIN Bob Miller N6ZHZ and Cathy Livoni KD6CYG Bob Thornburg WB6JPI David Berkompas N8RRV and team Roger Denny WB6ARK
Comedienne Helene Weinberg made a video of Hamcon 2007, including the start of this hunt.
There was also an all-on-foot transmitter hunt at Hamcon 2007.
