When Matthew Robbins AA9YH and Dick Arnett WB4SUV planned the 80-meter course, they decided to put the finish corridor through this stream.

Matthew and Dick had to cross the stream several times themselves to put out and pick up the transmitters and homing beacon.

George Neal KF6YKN went through the water at full stride on his way to gold medals (USA and overall) in the M50 category. He was 18 minutes faster than the second place M50 finisher.

What's this? There's no other way? German competitors Susanne Walz DG4SFF and Matthias Kuehlawein DL3SDO each looked bewildered when they first encountered the creek, but then they bravely waded across.

It's just another day in the woods for veteran orienteer Bob Cooley KF6VSE as he heads for overall and USA gold medals in M60 category.

From dejected to elated in ten seconds! Jen Harker W5JEN didn't let the creek stop her from getting a silver medal in the 80m event, D35 category.

It's not so bad! Lori Huberman splashes her way to the finish and gold medals in D21.

Bill Smathers KG6HXX of Santa Barbara is out of the creek and approaching the 80m finish line.

Those who didn't want to go through the stream could go around on a nearby bridge, which added some extra time of course. Only two of the participants did so, including Eric Lebreton (heading left), an orienteer who was not formally entered in the competition.

Medals for both events were awarded as soon as the computer finished scoring the 80m event on Sunday. Dale Hunt WB6BYU (left) of Yamhill, Oregon is getting his medals (M50 2m overall and USA silver, 80m USA bronze) from co-chair Dick Arnett WB4SUV. Dale is ARDF Coordinator for International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) Region 2 (North and South America), which gives him the responsibility for getting ARDF going in western hemisphere countries.

Harley Leach KI7XF of Bozeman, MT received medals in M60 for both bands (2m overall and USA silver, 80m overall and USA bronze.

Lori Huberman of the Cambridge Sports Union took home gold in D21 on both bands for the second straight year.

Proudly displaying their newly-received medals are Ken Harker WM5R (M21 80m USA silver), Leszek Lechowicz NI1L (M40 80m USA gold and overall silver) and Brian Jansen KC9GMW (M40 80m USA bronze).

Another medal-winning trio: Addison Bosley KJ4VCV (M19 2m and 80m overall and USA gold), Karla Leach KC7BLA (D60 80m overall and USA silver) and Matthias Kuehlwein DL3SDO (M40 80m overall gold).

Congratulating each other at the end are Dick Arnett WB4SUV and Bob Frey WA6EZV, the overall event co-chairs. Since each set one course and ran the other, each had the opportunity to become a medal winner, and they did. Bob took M60 overall and USA silver on 80m, while Dick got M60 overall and USA bronze on 2m. In addition, they received well-deserved congratulations from everyone in attendance for being leaders of a great group of volunteers that put on an outstanding championships.
